Episode 52 – From 13 Arrests to Attorney: David Windecher’s Journey & the Power of Rehabilitation

In this episode of See You In Court, hosts Robin Frazer Clark and Lester Tate welcome Atlanta attorney and activist David Windecher, founder of Rehabilitation Enables Dreams (RED).

David’s incredible story takes him from 13 arrests and life on the streets of Miami to becoming a respected criminal defense lawyer, author, and national voice for restorative justice. His nonprofit, RED, focuses on helping nonviolent offenders break the cycle of incarceration through education, workforce training, and second chances.

How a Dream Became a Movement

Growing up in poverty and surrounded by violence, David faced obstacles few could overcome. After a life-changing mentorship, he earned his GED, went to law school, and founded RED—turning his own story of redemption into a blueprint for others.

Through partnerships with the NFL, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, and multiple Georgia counties, RED’s programs have helped participants rebuild their lives, seal their records, and find lasting stability.

Rehabilitation, Faith, and the Law

From a moment of faith in a Miami church to his oath as a member of the Georgia and Florida Bars, David’s life reflects the power of purpose and the importance of compassion within justice. His mission: to transform the system from one that punishes to one that heals.
